Korea

Shooting with Branwyn in different world locations has been an accidental study in social perceptions toward women. The challenge of modeling in underwear outside of a studio has that effect. While much of Korea is quite modern and women are promised social parity, reality is a bit more volatile. Feminism is a “bad word” in Korea, and women are hesitant about being labeled as such because of the social stigma and even blatant bullying that comes with that. During the shoot we enjoyed a frank conversation about this, between surfing wipeout stories and sharing travel tips.

Our model is deep in her studies, with just two years left to become a doctor, yet scars, scratches and bandages riddle her legs and arms, and despite the seriousness of her chosen profession, she reminds me of a kid with her sense of adventure and rough and tumble sense of fun.

This shoot took on a bit or a departure in feel from previous sets, incorporating expressions from surf to skate, to travel, to low light street shots and curling up with a book, carried by her blunt smile and and deadpan “cool” energy.
